There will be a layer in the text-generation process that will "invisibly" bias towards certain words or patterns. you know how you can tell that writing is AI-generated? This will be sort of like that -- a tendency towards certain language that is measurable and identifiable by the detection tools

It will no doubt be easy to circumvent but the onus will be on the user to remember to circumvent it consistently. If they forget one time and something with an AI watermark makes it into their work, they personally are now tainted.

Of course there are now steps you didn't have to take before, but my point is that said steps border on the trivial, and for the enterprising AI author can be put into the pipeline. What they're proposing is that the actual text reveals itself as generated, and I think that's hubris.
