it sounds good, but i don't see how text can be "watermarked" in a way that wouldn't be trivially easy to circumvent

  1. Same.
  2. Right, and even images can just be screenshotted & cropped. Great but not really gonna thwart anything. What ACTUALLY has to be done is recognizing that "training" is just copying data, training on copyrighted data & redistributing the results is already illegal, & freaking enforce that
  3. It will no doubt be easy to circumvent but the onus will be on the user to remember to circumvent it consistently. If they forget one time and something with an AI watermark makes it into their work, they personally are now tainted.
  4. Even text on a screen is code. I assume this will be pretty simple to do.
  5. It's not perfect but I think it's a big step in the right direction
  6. What do you mean?
  7. You're gonna have to walk me through how this is going to work line by line, because I can see trivial ways to undermine the watermark if it has to be text.
  8. for sure, but in theory it becomes more difficult, if you want to avoid detection? bsky.app/profile/keit...
  9. Of course there are now steps you didn't have to take before, but my point is that said steps border on the trivial, and for the enterprising AI author can be put into the pipeline. What they're proposing is that the actual text reveals itself as generated, and I think that's hubris.
